Why we do what we do
Hi! We are Brady and Becca Nigh! We both grew up on dairy farms in Southwest Wisconsin. We both knew we wanted to continue our careers in agriculture, so we attended University of Wisconsin - River Falls for Animal Science. Upon graduating, we came back to our communities and quickly realized the importance of full animal utilization for the animals in our area and on our small farm.
Upon graduating, we were lucky to be able to purchase Becca’s father’s childhood home to start our own farming operation. We have many animals on our small farm including horses, a dog named Odie, and other livestock. We raise Hereford beef, meat goats, meat sheep, and dual purpose (eggs and meat) chickens. Part of our life goal was to be able to market our animals locally and use some of our skills to prove that local doesn’t have to be expensive.
To help cut costs, we are constantly trying to find the best use of every single part of the beef animal that we raise. Because of this, we started Simply Natural, our tallow products side of our business, and Simply Smoked, our smoked meat part of the business. With these brands, we are able to take parts of the animals that are commonly discarded. Beef suet fat, which is what we use to turn into tallow, is one example of product that is commonly thrown away. There are also many lesser-known meat cuts that are typically ground instead of cooked for a delicious meal, much like our favorite cut, brisket. By utilizing these products instead of discarding or grinding, we are able to spread the processing and animal costs over more pounds allowing us to pass the savings onto you!
We believe that every animal intended for human consumption should be 100% utilized so nothing from that goes to waste. Since we purchase all our beef fat from local farmers and abattoirs, we help reduce the amount of product that is otherwise discarded. This keeps more money in our community, more money at the processors, and in turn, more money to the farmers who spend their life dedicated to raising healthy animals.
In July of 2024, we had our first baby and during pregnancy we did extensive research on pregnancy and baby products and how they affect our body and our baby. We wanted to start living a less toxic lifestyle for the health of us and our son. Becca had dry skin during pregnancy, and since we wanted to find all natural and non toxic moisturizers, we started researching the benefits of using tallow in skincare. It helped her tremendously, and we even use it on our baby to this day!
We love using tallow, from skincare to cooking, and we are excited to provide this amazing product to our community. We hope you like it as much as we do!
